Ensuring the integrity and security of medical supplies requires more than just physical storage. At Micro Division, we recently completed a comprehensive technology deployment for a medical supply company that operates a large cold storage facility used to store temperature-sensitive medicine stock.

The project involved the installation and configuration of enterprise Wi-Fi access points, CCTV surveillance systems, and environmental monitoring sensors to ensure that the facility maintains strict operational and regulatory standards.

Project Overview

Medical supplies, particularly pharmaceuticals, often require strict temperature and humidity control to maintain their effectiveness and safety. Any fluctuations outside acceptable ranges could compromise the quality of the stored medicine.

To address this, our team designed and deployed a system that integrates:

-Environmental monitoring sensors

-Network infrastructure upgrades

-Wireless connectivity improvements

-CCTV surveillance systems

-Secure device segmentation within the network

The goal was to create a fully monitored, reliable, and scalable infrastructure capable of supporting both operational efficiency and compliance requirements.

One of the most critical aspects of this project was ensuring continuous environmental monitoring inside the cold storage room.

To achieve this, we installed temperature and humidity sensors strategically throughout the cold room warehouse. These sensors allow the company to monitor environmental conditions in real time and ensure that medicine stock remains stored within safe limits.

The sensors were connected to dedicated Raspberry Pi devices, which act as monitoring gateways. These devices collect data from the sensors and provide a centralized method for tracking environmental conditions.

To maintain proper infrastructure organization and system reliability, the Raspberry Pi monitoring devices were installed inside their own dedicated cabinet, separate from other networking equipment.

This approach provides:

-Improved system organization

CCTV Surveillance Deployment

In addition to environmental monitoring, the facility required a comprehensive surveillance system to improve security and operational visibility.

Our team installed multiple CCTV cameras throughout the facility, ensuring coverage in key operational areas including:

-Inside the cold storage warehouse

-Loading and stock handling zones

-General warehouse areas

-Key entry and movement points within the building

All cameras are connected to a Network Video Recorder (NVR), which allows the client to centrally manage video recording and playback.

This setup enables the company to:

-Monitor inventory handling procedures

-Improve security within sensitive storage areas

-Maintain visual records for operational accountability

Network Infrastructure and Fibre Integration

To ensure reliable communication between systems, we extended the facility’s network infrastructure by bridging the main server room switch to a secondary switch dedicated to the newly installed devices.

This connection was achieved using fiber optic cabling with SFP modules, providing high-speed and low-latency connectivity between network cabinets.

Fibre connectivity was selected because it offers:

-Higher bandwidth capacity

-Greater reliability over distance

-Improved network performance for surveillance and IoT devices

By integrating the new infrastructure with the existing server room network, we ensured that all systems operate seamlessly within the company’s core IT environment.

Structured Cabinet Deployment

To maintain a clean and organized infrastructure layout, the network devices were installed across two separate cabinets within the same server room.

The cabinet structure was designed as follows:

-Environmental Monitoring Cabinet

-Raspberry Pi monitoring systems

-Temperature and humidity sensor controllers

-Networking and Surveillance Cabinet

-Network switches

-Wireless access point connections

-CCTV camera network connections

-NVR system

Separating these systems improves system management, troubleshooting, and long-term scalability.

Eliminating WiFi Dead Zones

The facility relies on IoT scanning devices used by staff to track and manage inventory throughout the warehouse. Because of this, consistent wireless coverage across the entire building was essential.

Our team conducted a site assessment to identify potential WiFi dead zones, particularly in areas with heavy shelving, cold room insulation, and warehouse obstructions.

We then installed and positioned enterprise wireless access points strategically throughout the building to ensure full wireless coverage.

This deployment provides:

-Reliable connectivity for IoT scanners

-Seamless wireless roaming across the warehouse

-Stable network access for operational staff

The result is a fully connected environment that supports real-time inventory management and operational efficiency.
